UPDATED: The next generation of Apple's iPad will be available this Friday from 8am in New Zealand, the company said in a statement. However, local retailer The Warehouse has imported the third generation iPad from the US and will be selling the devices from tomorrow, 21 March.
Update 2:32pm:
Local retailer The Warehouse has imported the third generation iPad from the US and will be selling the devices from tomorrow, 21 March, at 11am.
The tablets will not be available from the chain's retail stores, but from the company's website. Assuming the devices are shipped promptly, customers will get their new iPads a day before everyone else.
PC World has enquired about when the devices will ship and how long shipped iPads will take to arrive.
Original story:
The next generation of Apple's iPad will be available this Friday from 8am New Zealand time, the company said in a statement.
It will be available both online on the Apple store and through "select Apple authorised resellers".
PC World has contacted Apple's local authorised reseller, YooBee, to ask about the availability of the new iPad and the store's opening times on Friday. We will update this story as soon as we have further details.
Apple's CEO, Tim Cook, said the new iPad had enjoyed a "record breaking" weekend in the US.
Senior vice president of Apple's worldwide marketing, Phillip Schiller, said three million devices had been sold so far. Schiller called the release "the strongest iPad launch yet".
"Customers are loving the incredible new features of iPad ... and we can't wait to get it into the hands of even more customers around the world this Friday."
The new iPad features quad-core graphics and a 'Retina' display with a 2048 x 1536-pixel resolution. It is slightly heavier than the iPad 2, but considerably more powerful.
Apple said the device, which comes in both black and white, has up to 10 hours of battery life when being used heavily.
Local pricing is still yet to be announced.
